Flaxseed oil and the heath benefits
Welcome to flaxseed-oil.net!
Flaxseed oil is a nutritional supplement that many people believe can
help maintain a healthy body. Flaxseed oil can be found from nutritionists,
nutritional stores, and natural or health food stores.
Flaxseed oil contains the essential omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids
that our bodies require to be healthy. The proper balances of acids
are needed to keep our health at top condition, and most of our diets
are heavily favored toward the omega-6 variety without enough omega-3.
One of the best supplements for this is flaxseed oil, as its ratio of
omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids is inversely proportionate to the ratio
normally found in our diets, resulting in more of the omega-3 fatty
acids we need. As well, it contains other nutrients and vitamins that
are beneficial to our health, and as a result is hailed as a wonderful
addition to our diets to ensure we're getting the full balance of vitamins
and minerals.
Advocates of flaxseed oil claim that some of the benefits are:
• Helps lower cholesterol, and avert artery clots – as a
result, preventing strokes and heart attacks
• Can help with treatment of depression
• Aids in weight loss
• Alleviates some allergies, as well as some cases of asthma
• Improves calcium absorption in the body
• Can help improve eyesight and color perception
• Strengthens finger and toenails
• Increases moisture in the body, easing the problems of eczema,
psoriasis, and dandruff
• Boosts the body's production of energy, as well as increasing
stamina
• Can help to accelerate healing of sprains and bruises
Flaxseed oils contain the highest concentration of alpha-linolenic acid,
which is very good for the heart. As such, it is a wonderful addition
to a heart-conscious diet. Flaxseed oil also contains lignans, which
may have antioxidant actions that can work to prevent some cancers.
However, this particular benefit is highly debated and many feel there
is not sufficient proof to market flaxseed oil as a cancer prevention
agent.
The oil itself is highly susceptible to spoilage if exposed to too much
light or heat. It is recommended that flaxseed oil be purchased and
stored in amber colored containers in the refrigerator to maintain its
consistency and integrity, and keep the freshness. Discard any oil that
is rancid in smell or flavor.
A great way to include flaxseed oil in your diet is to grind flaxseeds
themselves into a powder using a standard coffee grinder. The powder
can then be mixed in to a variety of foods, including cottage cheese,
yogurts, juices, as well as using the oil as a replacement for salad
dressing. Flaxseed grinds can also be mixed into grains while making
homemade breads, muffins and pastas. Its nutty, buttery flavor is a
wonderful complement for many foods, and can be seamlessly added to
one's diet.
Cooking with flaxseed oil as a replacement for other vegetable or olive
oils is not advised, as the heat will accelerate the breakdown of the
nutritional advantages found in flaxseed.
